Lee Health, a health system based in Fort Myers, Florida, has had inpatient telemedicine infrastructure in place since 2014, ambulatory telemedicine since 2015 and a direct-to-consumer system since 2019. Lee Health’s 600 ambulatory physicians were systematically turned on to start virtual patient-appointments within the EHR.

Hospital systems across the country are in the initial stages of rolling out voice-activated digital assistants like Alexa to boost patient engagement and simplify the work of doctors and nurses. Another Alexa project coming from Northwell will allow doctors and nurses to ask Alexa for details on a patient’s electronic health record.
