With the PHE ending on May 11, 2023, some Telehealth policy changes will remain permanent, while others will end in May or later this year. Two areas that saw growth in digital health include behavioral and mental health services.

As we head closer to the public health emergency (PHE) end date of May 11, 2023, providers must prepare for changes. After December 31, 2024, these sites can no longer offer virtual visits relating to non-behavioral/mental health care. More changes to telehealth policy may come in 2023 and 2024.

After years of federal controversy and conjecture, the White House announced Monday that the COVID-19 national and public health emergencies (PHE) will end on May 11. As noted by Telehealth.org, other repercussions concerning licensure and HIPAA-compliance enforcement also will take immediate effect with the end of the PHE.
