Medicaid and CHIP Enrollment Up 25%

Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) data shows enrollment gains in all states, according to the Department of Health and Human Services , with more than 10.1 million additional Americans covered compared to two years ago. That is a 17.5% increase over the average monthly enrolment in 2013, prior to the opening of enrolment in the federal marketplace , the agency reported.

SCOTUS Leaves Oklahoma Out of ACA Case

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to include Oklahoma in the King v. Burwell case that will decide whether residents of 37 states can receive federal subsidies to buy Affordable Care Act health insurance through the federal exchange. Without comment, the high court rejected the request by Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt to bypass review of his state’s case by a federal appeals court and combine it with the Virginia case the court has accepted for review.

Week 10 Snapshot: 137,300 Select Plans, 7.3 Million Enrolled

Almost 137,300 consumers selected Affordable Care Act plans on the federal health insurance exchange during the 10th week of open enrollment, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced Jan. 28. Total sign ups topped 7.29 million since the enrollment began Nov. 15, 2014. The most recent report, which covers the period of Jan. 16 to Jan. 23, also included signup statistics for the 37 states that refer their residents to the HealthCare.gov website.

Burwell case now before the Supreme Court, which will decide if residents 37 states qualify for Act subsidies to buy, but a majority favor Congress acting to preserve those subsidies if the court rules them illegal.
