It would seem as if Alexandru “Alex” Radita, who had Type 1 diabetes, had lived in a time before insulin therapy. A video of his 15th birthday party shows an emaciated boy determinedly trying to open a birthday gift despite his visible weakness. There is a large sore on his nose, and even though he doesn’t smile in the clip provided, it is clear he is missing teeth.

I recently read of a girl with Type 1 diabetes who was trying to find answers to an insulin allergy, and I wanted to share the long view on this subject. I have dealt with insulin allergies for more than 33 years, but have just as few answers. I developed Type 1 diabetes in 1983 and was prescribed beef-pork insulin. I soon was switched over to pork-based insulin.

When it comes to Medicaid , there is a lot of confusion as to what it means to be eligible on a state by state basis. The assumption may be that Medicaid recipients are eligible if their income falls under 100% of the federal poverty line (FPL).This is incorrect. What does the FPL mean? The Republican leadership in the House recently proposed its ACA repeal and replace bill. It remains uncertain as to whether Republicans can secure enough support amongst themselves to pass the bill. Just after the bill was released, Jim Jordan (R. Ohio), who is the former chair of the House Freedom Caucus, a group totaling about 40 conservative Republicans, railed against the bill and told reporters that he would not support it in its current form.
