'Blood, Sweat, and Diabetes. The time has come. I want to be accountable, so I’m telling you about my goal. I’m going to ride a 100 mile Tour de Cure bike ride for the American Diabetes Association in June 2014. Mark that down. Goals drive me to stay healthy. When I was 30, my A1C was almost 12.8, so I set a goal to get it under control. I went on an insulin pump and started exercising with a personal trainer.

I’m convinced that Dr. Eric Topol is one of those rare people, like Dr. John Halamka, who can function on minimal sleep, perhaps four hours a night. He just gets that much done. Yesterday, AT&T named Topol chief medical advisor. As such, the company says, Topol will “impact the design, development and delivery” of connected health products and services for the AT&T ForHealth business.

'Commentary. We have known all along that helping people understand their T1 leads to better health outcomes, but we rarely quantify how much help such education provides. However, new findings by the Diabetes Forum and the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists has found that such education can dramatically improve the quality of life for people with diabetes and even reduce taxpayer money spent on public health care.

T1 blogger Kerri Sparling, who has written about pump sex in her blog SixUntilMe.com , says it’s definitely a popular conversation among T1 women’s discussion groups, with FAQs like “How do you deal with wearing a device when naked?”, “Do you disconnect a pump during intimacy?”, and “Does the pump get in the way, physically or emotionally?”.
