Civitas Networks for Health is a non-profit consortium that brings together a broad community of organizations interested in health data exchange. Many members are HIEs, but a number of other organizations in health care including community organizations are members as well.

The government and many healthcare leaders are pushing for more interoperability and data sharing in healthcare. When you look at how much data is passing through Healthix, it’s kind of hard to comprehend. 50 million patients with 105+ million inbound data is a lot of health data.

This week I’m attending the The Civitas Networks for Health 2022 Annual Conference, a Collaboration with the DirectTrust Summit, which I previously described as The Woodstock of Healthcare Interoperability. Their discussion was prompted by this paper that was published on “Health Data Federalism.”

Certainly AI us currently doing that in health IT, but in the world of interoperability TEFCA and QHINs are grabbing all of the attention. There are a lot of views on TEFCA, but the one thing that’s certain is that it’s grabbing a lot of the interoperability focus from government regulators and the industry.

In the world of interoperability, the announcement of the QHINs and that they’re already starting to share records is a big deal. No doubt there was a palpable excitement about the QHINs being announced and what that’s going to facilitate when it comes to a national interoperability network.
