In response to these trends, in 2011 I created the FHIR specification, to allow the use of Web APIs in healthcare. The result of this is that all other health IT projects are forced into the strait jacket of the centralised document store with its limited consent model, or they are de-prioritised and/or unfunded by DOH or ADHA.
