Dr Vin Diwakar, the interim director of transformation of NHS England, has been confirmed as keynote for Digital Health Summer Schools 2024, which opened for registrations this week.
Taking place at Durham University on 18-19 July, the two-day residential retreat brings together CCIOs, CIOs and CNIOs, together with current and aspiring digital health leaders for CPD-accredited content, networking and best practices exchange. It is exclusively available for members of Digital Health Networks.
Dr Diwakar’s keynote will set the national course for digital transformation in a year of change and uncertainty. Mounting pressure on NHS services, a looming general election and further developments in the shift to integrated care will shape the NHS’ future. But what role will digital and innovation play?
He debuted at Summer Schools in July discussing the NHS’ adoption of electronic patient records, speaking highly of the NHS App and telling the 400-strong audience that the incoming Federated Data Platform “will help us use patient data in a different way” and “will give us access to data on how care is being delivered”.
Summer Schools 2023 attendees also heard updates and perspectives from national keynotes Melanie Iles, interim CCIO, and John Quinn, interim CIO from NHS England. The event also marked the launch of the Birmingham Declaration which called on attendees to provide their views on how best to drive change and improvement through digital and data across the NHS.
Summer Schools bursaries available
There are 10 Summer School bursary places available for digital nursing and midwifery across the UK to encourage and facilitate diverse representation and attendance at the event.
A further 10 places have been created for AHP and pharmacy leaders too. These will help identify, promote and support future digital AHP and pharmacy leaders and future talent in the UK health informatics and digital health sector.
2023 bursary winner Leah Bradley, lead nurse expanse at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital NHS FT, said of her first Summer Schools experience: “…it was a fantastic opportunity to meet like-minded digital leaders, to network and share ideas. I left the Summer School feeling inspired, energised and excited.”
This bursary programme will cover the cost of event access to both days, accommodation and evening socials. The deadline for applications is Wednesday 31 January 2024.
