US News & World Report has teamed up with Doximity, a social network for doctors, to develop a new tool that lets patients book appointments while they are looking at doctors’ profiles on USNews.com. 

“For over 25 years, US News has helped patients in search of reliable health care information find the best hospital to treat their specific needs,” Evan Jones, vice president and general manager of the healthcare and insights groups at US News, said in a statement. “With this expansion of our partnership with Doximity through our new online appointment booking service, we are increasing our ability to deliver high-quality and on-demand medical information to patients looking to connect with top healthcare providers.”

Although US News & World report is best known for ranking colleges and universities, it also ranks hospitals and doctors. Along with helping users search for a physician that meets their needs and then schedule an appointment, the new tool also gives users data to help them choose a doctor that is right for them. Users will get access to a free online directory of more than 900,000 doctors in the US. 

“US News Doctor Finder and Doximity physician profiles have become a vital resource for consumers researching and looking for a physician,” Dr. Nate Gross, cofounder of Doximity, said in a statement. “The addition of a booking tool helps make the process even more streamlined for patients.”

Clinicians and healthcare organizations can subscribe to the service through Doximity. The platform can be integrated with existing third-party scheduling applications and the patients can also make appointments through the doctor’s Doximity profile. 

The relationship between Doximity and US News isn’t new. In 2013 the companies entered into a partnership to make the Doximity’s directory of physicians available to consumers on the US News platform. 

Within the last year Doximity has been making other collaborations. For instance, in September the company announced a collaboration to enable one-touch dialing of patients from directly within Haiku, Epic’s mobile platform for EHRs.
