Non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) coordination platform Ride Health has closed a $6.2 million seed funding round, it announced this morning. Activate Venture Partners headed the raise, with additional participation from New York Ventures, Newark Venture Partners, BioAdvance and Startup Health.

WHAT THEY DO

Ride Health offers a real-time, web and mobile NEMT platform for health plan and healthcare provider partners. It incorporates transportation options ranging from public transit to ambulances to wheelchair-accessible ride shares, and handles the mapping, preference logging and coordination necessary to provide timely transportation services. In addition, the platform logs feedback and other service-specific data for customers to monitor the network’s performance.

“Ride Health is built to bring lasting and systemic change to this industry,” Imran Cronk, CEO and founder, said in a statement. “We are setting the standard for real-time visibility at the intersection of healthcare and transportation, similar to what Flexport has done for global logistics. These efforts are made more challenging because we work with vulnerable patients who need access to life-sustaining care and contend with multiple social factors impacting their health.”

The company also notes that its service has been employed for some time by Philadelphia-based Penn Medicine.

WHAT IT’S FOR

The startup’s announcement was light on specifics, saying only that the funding will “support Ride Health’s mission of ensuring that every patient, everywhere, has access to the care and resources they need to ensure good health.”

MARKET SNAPSHOT

Ride Health is one among several NEMT tech companies and services seeing increased attention as of late. Roundtrip, for instance, raised $5.1 million in a Series A round last spring, while big names like Lyft have cut several partnerships with providers and payers to provide these services.

ON THE RECORD

"Transportation plays a critical role in lowering the cost of healthcare by ensuring patients get the care they need when they need it," Todd Pietri, managing partner at Activate Venture Partners, said in a statement. "Ride Health empowers healthcare providers, payers, and patients to leverage technology and data to improve health outcomes at a lower cost. We feel fortunate to be in business with an innovative company addressing a large and attractive market with a powerful value proposition."
