Teladoc Health announces its replacement CFO, MyHealthTeams appoints EVP of partnerships and more digital health hires

Teladoc Health has tapped Mala Murthy as its latest CFO, the telehealth company announced on Tuesday. Murthy most recently held a CFO post within American Express’ Global Commercial Services Segment, where she oversaw financial planning and analysis, M&A and investment and operating expense management.

“Teladoc Health has reached an exciting and pivotal time in the company’s history and I’m delighted to have joined this mission-driven team,” Murthy said in a statement. “I look forward to applying my experience and leadership not only with sights on the achievement of the organization’s financial and strategic goals, but with a genuine passion for supporting Teladoc Health in the drive to improve healthcare.”

Murthy’s predecessor, Mark Hirschhorn, stepped down from his post last year amidst allegations that he engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationships with a subordinate and took part in insider trading.


MyHealthTeams, which runs social network platforms for those with chronic health conditions, has appointed Christian Pran as its EVP of partnerships. Pran, who holds a background in business development and digital media sales within healthcare and pharma, will be leading a team seeking to communicate with biopharmaceuticals on how best to engage their patients.

“Now more than ever, pharma leaders in medical affairs, commercial, and clinical development look to MyHealthTeams to help them understand the real-world patient experience and address patient education gaps and unmet needs,” Eric Peacock, cofounder and CEO of MyHealthTeams, said in a statement. “Christian’s deep history of working with pharma partners, his passion for empowering people living with chronic conditions, and his vast marketing experience make him extremely effective at moving the needle for both our partners and our members.”


Virtual Reality surgeon training platform Fundamental Surgery is expanding its team with the hire of Dr. David Farley, a surgical consultant in the Mayo Clinic’s Department of Surgey and its former director of the General Surgery residency program. In his new role, Farley will help guide the development of Fundamental Surgery’s educational simulations.

“I am excited to work with an extraordinary group of forward-thinking surgeons, scientists, engineers and educators to collaborate in creating dynamic, engaging and useful resources for surgical learners of varied skills and experience,” Farley said in a statement. “The ability to allow learners to practice, see, and feel the correct way to proceed with critical operative steps and procedures is a giant leap forward to enhance surgical performance and improve patient safety and outcomes.”


Continuous monitoring company EarlySense is bringing Dr. Stephen Kahane onto its board of directors. Kahane’s background includes a president position at athenahealth, and CEO roles at AMICAS, VitalWorks and Datamedic.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Kahane to our board of directors and look forward to leveraging his insights to better serve healthcare providers in combining our proven contact-free continuous monitoring patient-care solution with advanced analytics to protect patient lives,” Matt Johnson, CEO of EarlySense, said in a statement. “Dr. Kahane’s clinical, operational and entrepreneurial expertise will be invaluable in supporting our growth path.”


Dr. Daniel Kraft, a digital health entrepreneur and faculty chair for medicine at Singularity University, has joined Healthy.io’s board of directors, while Stephen Clark, formerly the SVP of UnitedHealth Group’s Optum Life Sciences Data and Analytics team, has been brought onboard tohead the Israeli company’s US operations.

“Stephen brings unrivaled experience in the medical device and health payer fields, making him the perfect person to bring our suite of solutions to the U.S. market,” Yonatan Adiri, CEO of Healthy.io, said in a statement. “Daniel Kraft is that rare combination of physician, entrepreneur, and innovator. As part of our board, he will work with the team as we build digital health solutions that stand up to the highest clinical quality measures and patient health outcomes.”
