Santa Monica, California-based Casetabs, which sells a cloud-based app designed for surgery coordination and communication, has raised $6 million in Series A funding, according to a statement. The investment round was led by Nueterra Capital and Evolution Financial Group.

"Together with our team and customers, we have built a proven solution that breaks down traditional communication barriers between surgery centers, physician offices, hospitals, anesthesiologist groups and medical vendors,” Gavin Fabian, CEO and founder of Casetabs, said in a statement. “With Nueterra Capital's investment and strategic value, we will greatly expand our reach as we work to completely eradicate surgery communication issues.”

Casetabs’ EMR-integrated, HIPAA-compliant platform is a central hub for surgeons, anesthesiologists, clinical staff, office staff, and vendor reps to share case information. The app, which can be used on phones, tablets, and computers, helps centers and practices increase staff efficiency, optimize patient flow, and reduce cancellations, according to Casetabs’s website.

The company will be using its newly announced funding to expand its presence and awareness within the hospital market, according to a statement, as well as to build deeper patient engagement features and to further integrate EHRs within the platform.

“We invested in Casetabs because we have confidence in the team and believe their product can transform the way surgical care is coordinated,” Nueterra Capital CEO Jeremy Tasset said in a statement. “Today, healthcare providers operate in silos, using a confounding variety of systems that don’t talk to each other, which ultimately leaves physicians and patients frustrated."
