Walgreen executive joins Fitbit board and other digital health hires

Food based app Zipongo has just announced that Dr. Dexter Shurney will be joining the company as chief medial officer and senior vice president of clinical affairs. In his new role he will responsible for clinical aspects of Zipongo products and overseeing clinical research and analytics. 

Prior to this position Shurney was the chief medical director of the employee health plan for Vanderbilt University and Medical Center. 

"I was able to reverse my own health issues by changing my diet 12 years ago, and that's what sent me down the lifestyle medicine path,” Shurney, said in a statement. "Zipongo's mission resonated very strongly with me, particularly following my experience at Cummins and the results we were able to achieve with lifestyle modification. I'm excited to build on what I learned at Cummins and apply 'food as medicine' on a much larger scale here at Zipongo."

Medication adherence company PharmMD has just named Jason Rose as the new CEO. Before coming to the company Rose served as chief strategic development officer and vice president at Inovalon. He has also worked at Ardent Health Services, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young and Cerner. 

“I’m extremely excited to join the PharmMD team,” Rose said in a statement. “PharmMD combines data-driven medication adherence solutions, a strong client base, amazingly talented people and demonstrated healthcare outcomes that drive value. I look forward to working with this great team, having a lot of fun, and leading PharmMD through its next exciting phase.”

Fitbit has named former Chief Healthcare Commercial Market Development Officer for Walgreens Brad Fluegel to the board of directors. He has previously worked with Anthem, Aetna and United Health Group. 

“Brad brings extensive experience that will be invaluable as we continue to integrate more deeply into the healthcare system. This includes his work with some of the nation’s largest health insurers along with driving long term growth strategies within the healthcare industry at large,” James Park, co-founder and CEO of Fitbit, said in a statement. “We welcome his insights and leadership as we expand and scale our healthcare offerings.”

Virtual care company Zipnosis has named Dr. Lisa Ide as their new chief medical officer. She was previously working at the company as the medical director. 

"Over the past year, Lisa's contributions to our clinical work, customer relationships and team have been uniformly exceptional," Jon Pearce, CEO, Zipnosis, said in a statement. "In 2017, Zipnosis had a great year, and there is significant opportunity for us to continue that momentum with further development of customer-centric solutions that can broaden the adoption of virtual care. With both Dr. Ide and Dr. Hafner-Fogarty's expertise and industry background, we look forward to their visions impacting the platform's direction.”

Maria Latushkin, former chief technology officer at Navar, will be joining Omada Health as the new Senior Vice President of Engineering. She will be overseeing a team of 35 engineers and managing collaboration with the company’s data science, product, and security teams. 

“Throughout my career, I’ve had the several opportunities to lead teams and scale technologies for a variety of companies,” Latushkin said in a statement.. “But rarely have I been able to align my professional expertise with a such a critical mission. Omada’s team structure provides the chance for fruitful collaboration, and I can’t wait to work with a group of experienced engineers to further develop a product already delivering better health to thousands of people across the country.”

Health technology company Vibrent Health has named Dr. James Wade as the new chief medical informatics officer. Wade will act as the liaison to the National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute, Clinical and Translation Science Awards Program, National Comprehensive Cancer Control program and other government agencies.

Before this portion Wade served as deputy director for quality and network development at Inova Schar Cancer Institute.

Former Senior Vice President at athenahealth Bill Conway will be joining American Well as general manager of provider solutions. Conway has previously worked as vice president of sales for Allscripts Corporation and at IDX systems Corporation. 

"Bill has a strong track record of success," Ido Schoenberg, chairman and CEO of American Well, said in a statement. "He brings great leadership expertise in building large client facing organizations and a profound understanding of the provider space.
