Former HHS CTO Ed Simcox named LifeOmic's chief strategy officer, Joe Kvedar steps up as editor in chief of npj Digital Medicine and more digital health hires

LifeOmic, the maker of apps and other software for providers, has snagged former HHS CTO Ed Simcox as its new chief strategy officer. This role will task Simcox with development of the company’s health and security product strategies, as well as with the coordination of B2B partnerships and other relationships.

“Ed provides LifeOmic with invaluable experience helping change the way people experience health care through technology,” Dr. Don Brown, CEO and founder of LifeOmic, said in a statement. “Ed has led the modernization of IT in health care for several years and will enable LifeOmic’s clients to efficiently use artificial intelligence and machine learning to accelerate research and improve patient outcomes.”


Nature Partner Journals has tapped Dr. Joe Kvedar for the editor in chief position at its digital health-focused publication, npj Digital Medicine, MobiHealthNews has learned. Kvedar has been with Partners HealthCare for a number of years in director, professor and VP positions, but dialed back his affiliation recently and now serves as a senior advisor for virtual care, according to his LinkedIn.


Level Ex, the maker of educational and skills-based video games for physicians has appointed a new CTO. Andy Glaister is a video game industry vet who led efforts on Amazon’s Lumberyard engine, and held top roles within Microsoft’s Game Studios and DirectX groups. He will be heading and scaling up Level Ex’s engineering team.

I can think of no better cause — medicine — that warrants the best that technology has to offer,” Glaister said in a statement. “To join Level Ex at a tipping point of rapid expansion means that I can impact our direction in ways I could not do anywhere else. Digital health coach Liva Healthcare named Jonas Hjortshøj as the company's next CCO. Hjortshøj is joining the team after his tenure at Novo Nordisk where he led commercial partnering activities.

I am looking forward to enhancing our value-proposition and cementing our position as a partner to some of the largest health insurers and pharmaceutical companies, while executing on our ambitious international growth plans,” Hjortshøj said in a statement. 


Remote vital sign monitoring company Current Health named Todd Rothenhaus to its board of directors. Rothenhaus is a physician and entrepreneur. He is the CEO of Cohealo, a company that helps health systems save money with equipment sharing programs. Prior to this he served as SVP and CMO at athenahealth

“Todd is one of the most experienced healthcare executives in the US, bringing unique and deep experience from both Athenahealth and Steward. He’s also an experienced physician who understands what it’s like to be on the front-line,” Chris McCann, CEO and cofounder of Current Health, said in a statement. “We wanted someone who combined experience leading healthcare companies with firsthand medical experience to provide insight into healthcare systems’ strategic priorities and how to best engage healthcare providers. Verana Health has tapped Dr. Matthew Roe as the next CMO. Roe is a chronologist and researcher. He joins the team after spending more than 20 years at Duke University School of Medicine and Duke Clinical Research Institute.
