Tagnos, maker of an AI-powered logistics platform for hospitals and clinics, announced today that it has raised $5 million in investment funding from Benhamou Global Ventures, Morpheus Ventures, and Zebra Ventures.

“We are focused on delivering data-driven patient flow and patient experience solutions,” Neeraj S. Bhavani, CEO of Tagnos, told MobiHealthNews in an email. “The new funding we’ve received will allow us to scale our business rapidly through both direct sales and well-established distribution channels.”

Tagnos’ software platform combines data from real-time location systems (RTLS) to improve the flow of patients within a health care facility. Along with data ingested from EHRs, computerized physician order entry (CPOE) systems, and other sources, the platform’s AI engine identifies patterns and alerts staff when it identifies an upcoming logistical bottleneck.

"The timing is right for clinical logistics automation that goes beyond traditional real time location systems for tracking staff and assets,” Bhavani wrote. “With the right software ‘glue,’ the data available in EHR, CPOE, [laboratory information systems, radiology information systems], and bed management systems can be combined with IoT to orchestrate clinical workflow in ways that facilitate patient flow. By applying machine learning and AI capabilities to historical data, our clinical logistics automation solution can predict events ahead of time, changing the paradigm of how care is delivered in a proactive and efficient manner.”

Tagnos’ product line includes a number of other AI tools that aim to improve hospital care, such as a smart environmental monitoring product and hand hygiene compliance resource. Each of these offerings can be viewed by clinicians or other hospital personnel through a digital dashboard, while Tagnos’ patient mobile app can keep patients in the loop about their care and provides them an opportunity to give feedback to their care team.

“Recent improvements in [internet of things] technologies (both at the edge and in the cloud) and the proliferation of mobile devices in hospitals, along with changes in healthcare reimbursement models, have created new opportunities for healthcare organizations to increase their productivity and efficiency,” Howard Ko, principal at Morpheus Ventures, said in a statement. “Tagnos is using a combination of sensor tracking and AI-aided situational awareness in an infrastructure-agnostic way to help hospitals make the transition to value-based, patient-centric care while enhancing the bottom line.”
