Food and nutrition tracking app MyFitnessPal announced a new set of tools and content to support members taking GLP-1 medications by helping them maintain proper nutrition and consistency while experiencing weight loss.

MyFitnessPal is a food and nutrition app that allows members to reach their health goals through better food choices. It also provides users with health and fitness information, motivation and a sense of progress.

Members enrolled in the GLP-1 plan will receive daily tips and encouragement on how to get the best out of sleeping and eating habits and learn the importance of nutrition during rapid weight loss.

Members will also have access to exercise videos focused on maintaining muscle while taking GLP-1 medications, medication tracking, a free recipe collection and in-app nutrition plan, and MyFitnessPal community forums to communicate with other members sharing their experience.

GLP-1s include brand names such as Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy and Zepbound.

"There's a real opportunity and need to provide free nutrition guidance and content to educate a growing population of people accessing GLP-1 medications for weight loss so they have long-term, sustainable outcomes," Mike Fisher, MyFitnessPal CEO, said in a statement.

THE LARGER TREND

MyFitnessPal raised $18 million in a funding round in 2013 led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. The company planned to use the funds to expand to international markets.

Fitness apparel brand Under Armour bought MyFitnessPal in 2015 for $475 million. The company sold the app to investment firm Francisco Partners in 2020 for $345 million.

MyFitnessPal partnered with Google Health Connect in 2023 to integrate continuous glucose monitoring tools into the fitness app. Android users who use glucose monitors can use the app to track correlations between foods they eat and their glucose levels to more effectively monitor those levels and make better food choices.

The same year, the company announced new features for its app for Wear OS by Google users. The features allow users to track their daily progress without having to log into the app on a smartphone.

In January, MyFitnessPal appointed new CEO Mike Fisher. Fisher previously worked at AFK Partners, which specializes in helping technology companies scale operations and small business marketplace Etsy.

The health and fitness company announced a new feature in March called Sleep Factors that allows users to visualize the impact sugar, water and exercise have on their overall sleep quality and how habits may impact their sleep.
