Health Equity, Burnout, and Patient Experience are Hot Topics at HIMSS22

In-person healthcare conferences offer a unique opportunity to learn from industry thought-leaders, discover interesting new companies, and hear from established players in the ecosystem. This year at #HIMSS22 I had the opportunity to capture a few of these meetings on camera.

Check out these short videos with: MedeAnalytics, Qualtrics, Esri, CareAlign, and Qure4u.

Health Equity

One of the most welcome developments during the last two years is the recognition of the health equity gap by the healthcare industry. The pandemic made it clear how the disparity of access, quality, and literacy impacts us all. I had the chance to talk to David Schweppe, Chief Analytics Officer at MedeAnalytics about this.

I also had the opportunity to connect with Dr. Este Geraghty, Chief Medical Officer and Health Solutions Director at Esri on the same topic. There is an obvious tie between geography and health equity – thankfully more and more healthcare organizations are realizing that.

Consumerism + Patient Experience + Patient Engagement

I am an unabashed fan of Dr. Adrienne Boissy, Chief Medical Officer at Qualtrics. She always has her finger on the pulse of patient experience. At this year’s #HIMSS22 preconference, a panel that I moderated discussed the difference between consumer and patient experience. I thought it would be interesting to get Dr. Boissy’s perspective on this.

Physician Burnout – Too Much Talk, Not Enough Action

Subha Airan-Javia is a practicing physician at Penn Medicine as well as the founder of CareAlign which sits on top of EHRs to make the information more accessible and useful to clinicians. She is passionate about physician + care worker burnout and believes we are talking about it, but not acting on it. That is something that will need to change as we emerge from the pandemic.

Helping Patients Prepare

Helping patients prepare properly for a procedure helps everyone involved. It ensures that the procedure will not have to be rescheduled and it reduces the anxiety for patients which has been found to improve outcomes. As we work through the backlog of procedures caused by the pandemic, this will become even more important. I caught up with Dr. Monica Bolbjerg, CEO and Founder of Qure4u to talk about this need.
