The Rise of Consumer Healthcare Applications – #HITsm Chat Topic

We’re excited to share the topic and questions for this week’s #HITsm chat happening Friday, 10/2 at Noon ET (9 AM PT). This week’s chat will be hosted by Brendan Keeler (@healthbjk) from @Redox on the topic of “The Rise of Consumer Healthcare Applications“.

The empowerment of the patient as a consumer is the new mantra and credo of the healthcare industry as it moves deeper into the second decade of the 2000s. A number of social, regulatory, and competitive trends back this movement:

  • The 21st Century Cures Act and resulting ONC Final Rule standardize patient authenticated APIs across all EHRs and healthcare organizations, allowing unprecedented access
  • Telehealth, home care, and DTC health businesses have exploded due to reimbursement change and increased convenience during times of pandemic
  • The largest technology companies (Apple, Google, Amazon) have a large consumer focus and look to expand their empires into healthcare

The future of a consumer focused healthcare system seems near, but its shape and disruptiveness still seems uncertain. Where will change happen? Who will win in this new ecosystem? And how can traditional healthcare companies be part of the new equation?

Join us on Friday, October 2nd at 12 p.m. ET to share your insights and hear from others.
