UnitedHealth Group CMO jumps ship for Commure role; Amwell board member transitions to leadership role and more digital health hires

Healthcare software company Commure appointed Dr. Saurabha Bhatnagar as its new chief health officer, the company shared last week in a blog post.

Bhatnagar was most recently the chief medical officer and head of digital and technology of UnitedHealth Group. He also brings experience as a physician at Massachusetts General Hospital and a faculty member at Harvard Medical School.

As chief health officer, Bhatnagar will assist in fulfilling Commure’s mission to connect the healthcare and technology spaces into one easy-to-navigate care delivery system.

“Commure is focused on providing solutions that enable overall health, which involves combining what happens inside and outside the walls of hospitals and clinics,” he said in the blog post. “This new and missing infrastructure is how we enable an unrelenting focus on the health of populations.”


Brendan O’Grady, a former member of Amwell’s board of directors, has transitioned into the role of chief commercial and growth officer for the company.

In the new role, O’Grady will support Amwell’s expansion by overseeing its strategic growth initiatives and leading the business development, sales and commercial enablement, marketing, channel partner and account management teams.

“Brendan has been a meaningful contributor to Amwell’s strategy and growth since joining our Board in 2015,” Ido Schoenberg, chairman and co-CEO of Amwell, said in a statement. “His long and impressive track record successfully leading large-scale growth in sizable healthcare organizations fits well with our plans. Having had the benefit of seeing his impact as a Board member, we are confident he understands our company, mission, and the tremendous opportunity ahead.”

In his more than 30 years in the healthcare sector, O’Grady spent time at Sanofi’s predecessor companies in a variety of commercial and medical affairs roles. Most recently, he was president and CEO of Teva Pharmaceuticals’ North America business after serving in a number of other leadership positions at the company.


Employer family-benefits platform Cleo has tapped Yasi Baiani to lead its customer and member experience as its new VP of Product.

Baiani comes to Cleo with over a decade of experience as a product leader, entrepreneur, and investor. She previously led the product teams at Teladoc Health, Fitbit, athenahealth and Halo Neuroscience. Specifically, during her time at Teladoc, she built the first integrated Livongo/Teladoc product, coupling digital solutions with teletherapy services.

Komodo Health, a data analytics company for the healthcare sector, has named Bill Madigan as its new chief revenue officer. 

Before coming to Komodo, Madigan led commercial efforts across life sciences, payers, providers and third-party markets at Optum and served as chief revenue officer at Cervello.

In his new role, Madigan will oversee Komodo’s customer-facing team and shape its commercial strategy.


Jennifer Fulk is joining the virtual behavioral healthcare provider Talkspace as its new chief financial officer.

Talkspace’s now-former CFO, Mark Hirschhorn, has transitioned to president and chief operating officer with Fulk’s addition.

We believe her extensive operational and financial expertise will be a valuable asset as we look to expand our coverage across a wide variety of mental health conditions,” Oren Frank, Talkspace co-founder and CEO, said in a statement. “Jennifer’s strategic vision and her ability to lead high-performing teams will guide Talkspace through the next phase of the company’s growth.”

Before coming to Talkspace, Fulk held a number of senior roles across finance, strategy and investor relations at Eli Lilly. Most recently, she served as CFO for the company’s U.S. Bio-Medicines division.


Consumer engagement platform Zipari named Kerry Unflat as its next chief people officer.

Unflat has two decades of experience in human resources from serving in leadership roles at HealthcareSource, GBH, the Harvard University Police Department and more.

"In this moment of continued growth and expansion, it’s more important than ever that we ensure our employees have what they need to succeed, inside and outside the office,” Mark Nathan, CEO of Zipari, said in a statement. “With over 20 years of human resources and talent management experience – much of it with a fast-growing software company – Kerry is the perfect person for the job. At Zipari, Unflat will lead the development of the People Ops team, strengthen talent recruitment, employment branding, talent development, and employee engagement.
