Simulation Operations Specialist

Natividad is seeking to fill a full-time permanent Simulation Operations Specialist position. Under general supervision, this incumbent provides technical support for high fidelity simulation equipment, multimedia, computer programing and other technical activities required for healthcare simulation training. This position supports instructors with simulation prep & set-up, implementation of the simulation and debriefing.

Example of Duties

  • Acts as a resource person for users of the automated simulation (sim) system(s) applications
  • Answers questions and resolves problems related to use and operation of simulation applications
  • Coordinates a third party or vendor help desk to resolve sim problems
  • Coordinates with computer sim support personnel in identifying and resolving problems with the system, including programs, workstations, networks and other hardware and software related to sim
  • Confers with all clinical department personnel regarding protocols and procedures
  • Collaborates with clinical department head to improve the effectiveness of sim programming and to make recommendations for systems and procedures improvements
  • Stays abreast of new sim technology
  • Documents and tracks sim system problems and writes reports on issues
  • Writes or assists in writing and revising sim procedures, sim instructional materials or staff development sim tools for systems-related training
  • Develops other sim system training material for users or recommends other computer and/or sim training resources as needed
  • May attend meetings and represent the sim program with vendors, other departments and/or other agencies for information sharing, system improvements, preparation of sim activities and sim-related activities
  • Assures sim system security
  • Monitors and maintains confidentiality of sim activity including audio and video recordings, and supportively reminds staff members of their commitment to confidentiality
  • Serves as a lead sim worker over subordinate staff; schedules, assigns and reviews the work of subordinate staff

Minimum Qualifications

Experience

  • One year of experience performing both technical support and training in the use of simulation computer hardware and software in an educational and/or clinical healthcare setting which includes
    • Modification of/or interfacing with sim software and hardware in sim application environments
    • Terminology related to anatomy, pathophysiology, medical procedures, and medical equipment and supplies
    • Common medications used and their indications are highly desirable

Working Knowledge Of

  • Capability and limitations of various computer operating systems including DOS, Windows, Mac and networks
  • Computer applications used in data management and simulation activities
  • Terminology related to computer hardware, software, network and peripheral equipment, and analytical processes
  • Some positions may require a working knowledge of the functions, regulations, services, programs and operations of the specific department
  • Developing creative alternatives to produce the desired outcomes from simulation equipment
