Health Informatics (HI) is a relatively new, interdisciplinary field. HI (also called Health Information Systems) uses information technology to organize and analyze health records to improve healthcare outcomes. Before the introduction of the HITECH Act, only 10 percent of hospitals had adopted EHRs.
