Weekly Roundup – June 25, 2022

Welcome to the first edition of the Healthcare IT Today Weekly Roundup. Each week, we’ll be providing a look back at the articles we posted and why they’re important to the healthcare IT community. We hope this gives you a chance to catch up on anything you may have missed during the week.

Is Larry Ellison’s Vision of a National EHR Database Even Possible? John Lynn decided to let the dust settle a bit before offering his thoughts on what the Oracle co-founder and executive chairman called a “National EHR Database.” The goal is certainly lofty – a full longitudinal record for a patient is well nigh impossible, as it would require Oracle and Epic to cooperate. Something akin to the Epic Cosmos dataset, with most but not all of the data, is far more likely. At the same time, Lynn says it was refreshing to hear a technology leader focus on how a national EHR database would benefit primarily benefit patients and public health efforts. He’s also interested in how an integration of Oracle ERP and Cerner EHR would play out – a goal that, once again, could be stymied by Epic. Read more…
