Did you know there are over 1 million addresses in the DirectTrust directory? That’s right. There are 1 million endpoints that can easily receive a direct message sharing patient information. Considering there are only a little over 600k doctors in the US, this is good progress. However, any directory of this nature also has its challenges. That’s why DirectTrust put together a directory improvement initiative, which they unveiled at a session at the DirectTrust Summit, to remedy some of those challenges.
Being able to find the right address is so important and so we wanted to learn more about this effort and what DirectTrust is doing to take their direct address directory to the next level. In the video interview below, Scott Stuewe, President and CEO at DirectTrust, shared the vision for the DirectTrust directory going forward.
Stuewe shared what the team is doing to address the current challenges and how they’re offering a new FHIR based approach to updating the directory while still supporting the current batch updating process that’s in production today. He shares how this change will address some of the challenges of the current approach and how the shift to FHIR based updates from batch updates is going to make a difference.
Plus, we ask Stuewe how DirectTrust member organizations can support this effort. One challenge with a directory like this is that it requires everyone in the community to do their part in keeping it up to date and accurate. Check out the video interview with Scott Stuewe from DirectTrust to learn more about this important initiative.
