2015 appears to be the year that life with Type 1 diabetes got put to music. A research group, Perle Bioscience, commissioned a song by American Idol contestant Adam Lasher and country singer Amanda Jo called “Needle Free” to rally the troops for Perle’s work to find a two-pronged functional cure for Type 1 diabetes. A Teen Mom , Mackenzie McKee, also…ahem… tried to rap about how to be healthy with diabetes, but she sadly ends up muddling things with her lyrics.

The IRS has issued Notice 2016-02 to provide information regarding the health coverage tax credit, or HCTC. The 14-page notice explains who can claim the HCTC, the amount of the credit, and the procedures to claim the credit for tax years 2014 and 2015. The IRS has announced the 2015 and 2016 “pay or play” penalties, adjusted for inflation, that may be imposed on employers who fail to comply with the Affordable Care Act’s employer mandates. When passed in 2010, the ACA provided for a $2,000 penalty if an applicable large employer fails to offer all full-time employees health insurance with minimum essential coverage, and a $3,000 penalty for failing to offer these employees coverage that is affordable and meets standards for minimum value.
