Has The Public Changed Its Tune On The Affordable Care Act?

The fate of the Affordable Care Act currently rests in the hands of Senate as they dissect Trump’s American Health Care Act and either approve it, dismantle it or just start over. As the Congressional Budget Office revealed that the number of uninsured would reach 23 million over the next ten years under the AHCA, it’s certainly a cause for concern. That concern is echoed by many Americans, according to a new Kaiser Family Foundation study.

The new KFF study analyzed Americans’ views on both the Affordable Care Act and the American Health Care Act. The results reflected some interesting views on the fate of healthcare. 55% of Americans view the AHCA as unfavorable, with 40% being very unfavorable. Only 12% found it very favorable. 29% hope that Senate refuses to pass the new bill, with a 50% breakdown of Americans wanting either major or minor changes to the current bill. Further, 29% of Americans view the ACA very favorably; only 12% view the AHCA very favorably.

However, per 63% of Americans, the fault of any further ACA issues rests with President Trump and Congressional GOPs. Less than half of that figure would place the blame on Obama and Congressional Democrats. Of the 63% who feel Republicans are at fault, that number is broken down into 77% being Democrat, 49% being Republican, and 63% Independent.

When it comes to Trump’s promises on healthcare reform, most Americans don’t feel he has delivered. Only 14% feel the AHCA reflects those promises. 76% feel it reflects either none or only some of those promises. While both the ACA and the AHCA remain in question, the only thing Americans want is clarity.
