Individual Insurance Market Up 46%

The nation’s individual insurance market grew 46% to 15.5 million people in the first year that plans could be purchased through. Affordable Care Act marketplaces, according to a study by the Kaiser Family Foundation. Four states – California, Florida, Texas and Georgia — accounted for almost half of the enrollment growth. In a survey of more than 10,000 families, parents filled out questionnaires over a span of 12 years. The children who had experienced a “serious life incident” (death of a family member or serious accident, for example) showed a tripled risk of being diagnosed with Type 1.

California Doctors Support ACA

Researchers at UCLA found that about 59% primary care and specialty physicians in California support the Affordable Care Act, and 61% believe the law will either help their practice or have no effect on it. The survey of 525 doctors, conducted online in mid-2014, was just published in the peer-reviewed journal Family Medicine. About 59% of the California physicians agreed with the statement that the ACA, “if fully implemented, would turn the United States in the right direction.
