Tom Brady’s Business Partner’s False Diabetes Claims

One of the supplements under investigation was falsely billed as a treatment and cure for Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes.

The IRS reminded employers, insurance providers and other entities that provide coverage under the Affordable Care Act of their reporting obligations under the ACA and the 2016 deadlines for submitting those reports. The ACA requires an “applicable large employer,” or ALE, which means a company with 50 or more full-time employees or full-time equivalent employees, to provide coverage information to their employees and to the IRS.

ACA Assurance Testing System Opens Soon

Tax Year 2015 ACA Assurance Testing System (AATS) will open for testing in early November for Information Returns that will be processed in 2016, the IRS announced. The testing is intended to assist developers of software for processing according to the IRS. The AATS testing will be in two phases. The November tests will evaluate responses to “test scenarios” submitted by software developers on a character-by-character basis, comparing the information submitted with IRS requirements.

Pennsylvania Limits Premium Hikes on ACA Plans

Pennsylvania’s insurance regulator has rolled back the health insurance premium increases some of the state’s largest insurers had requested for plans that will be sold on its marketplace in 2016. Geisinger Health Plan had asked for increases of up to 58%, while Highmark Inc. had requested increases of up to 36.6%. The Pennsylvania Insurance Department limited both to premium hikes of no more than 27%.

Health Program Launched for Low-Income New Yorkers

New York State has introduced a new affordable health insurance plan designed for low-income residents who make too much money to qualify for Medicaid , but not enough to afford private insurance. When open enrollment begins November 1, the “Essential Plan” will be offered through the state’s insurance exchange for those with incomes up to $23,540 for an individual and $48,500 for a family of four.
