I always take every chance I can get to talk to Former CIOs of healthcare organization. First, their experience in the field offers tremendous insights. Second, as a former CIO they can often “let their hair down” and really share the realities of being CIO at a healthcare organization.
With that as background, I was really excited to sit down with Cheryl Rodenfels, CTO and Healthcare Strategist at Nutanix and former CIO and CTO at multiple healthcare organizations. In our discussion we dive into the healthcare cloud and how CIOs views of the cloud have evolved over time including things like cloud security. Plus, we talk about the role that cloud in healthcare has played amidst COVID-19.
I also ask Rodenfels what she sees as the future of cloud in healthcare and how she works with healthcare organizations to find the right mix of private, public, hybrid, and multi-cloud. We also talk about the possibility of cloud costs ballooning over time and what a CIO needs to do to better manage the costs of cloud. We also ask Rodenfels to share something many people don’t understand about cloud.
