Here is a sampling: I could barely scrape up enough money for my bare minimum insulin needs for the first five years after diagnosis because I didn’t have insurance. I went without meters and test strips because they were/are too expensive without insurance.

In a report dated January 17, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) offered estimates on what would happen should the ACA be repealed. These figures range from premium prices to statistics of those uninsured. Here are a few of the notes: A jump in premium prices by 20-25% for those who purchase their healthcare either directly from the provider or via the ACA’s exchanges.

Earlier, we reported on how the Trump administration’s executive order on immigration barred Dr. Samira Asgari from joining a research lab that does diabetes research. The order barred immigration and refugees from seven countries with predominantly Muslim populations. While the Trump Administration is slowly putting the wheels in motion to repeal the Affordable Care Act, one state governor has been trying for over a year to do so in his own state. Kentucky Republican governor Matt Bevin first moved to dismantle the ACA in KY last January (2016). In a letter to the HHS, Bevin advised that he planned to move Kentucky’s health exchange Kynect directly to HealthCare.gov, citing “redundancy” amongst the exchanges, despite Kentucky already having a successful state

It was early last month when House Speaker Paul Ryan suggested that an ACA repeal would be far from immediate, as the transitional period in and of itself could take well over a year to fully complete. Despite the late night closed door meetings amongst members of the GOP, where a repeal felt like it was inching up by the day, President Trump has now echoed Ryan’s sentiment.
