eClinicalWorks Invests $100 Million in Microsoft Cloud Services

As we continue to shift healthcare into a more digital world, it’s important to have a reliable Cloud to back up and store all of the data and digital solutions. But how do you know which Cloud is the right one for your organization? eClinicalWorks (eCW) went through this process a couple of years ago and is so pleased with their decision to go with Microsoft Cloud that they are investing over $100 million in Microsoft’s Azure cloud services. We sat down with Sam Bhat, Vice President of Sales and Co-Founder at eCW, to learn more about these decisions.

“What we liked was how Microsoft came to the table with an Enterprise Team and being able to collaborate in our journey from the data centers we had built to moving that data into Microsoft Cloud.” Bhat said. “Since we made that decision a few years ago, we have never regretted making that decision. We’ve been quite pleased and delighted how Microsoft and its teams are working with us. Not only in the initial lift and shift but also adopting some of the native Azure capabilities into eClinicalWorks.”

But using the Cloud doesn’t just mean getting storage, it can come with a lot of other uses that are highly beneficial to improving patient care, such as AI. With Microsoft Azure, eCW’s clients were able to get higher availability and instant access all thanks to Azure’s built in zonal disaster recovery, regional/geo redundancy, and multiple backups. The AI also allows eCW clients to receive updates much quicker and a higher level of service at a lower cost.

While switching over to a Cloud can seem like a daunting process, the benefits far out weigh any concerns you may have. Bhat compares this process of switching over to the process of switching from BlackBerry to an iPhone. Initially, a lot of people deemed the switch unnecessary and they preferred having the full keyboard that BlackBerry offered. But eventually the full system that the iPhone offered far out weighed the BlackBerry, and those that waited to switch were stuck playing catch up while those that jumped on it benefited.
