Social Media, Patients, and Privacy – #HITsm Chat Topic

We’re excited to share the topic and questions for this week’s #HITsm chat happening Friday, 1/31 at Noon ET (9 AM PT). This week’s chat will be hosted by Candace (@RareCandace) on the topic of “Social Media, Patients, and Privacy”.

Now more than ever, patients are connecting online to share their stories, compare treatments, and connect with others impacted by their condition. Social media has become a valuable tool for exchanging ideas and experiences, which has caught the attention of healthcare companies. The data generated on social media platforms has the ability to influence care, support the approval of new treatments, and change the way companies interact with their targeted audience.

Patients are concerned about the privacy of their data. Recent scrutiny of companies like Facebook and Google has caused great concern among patient communities who use various platforms to connect. In balancing these concerns with the quest for better treatments, access to care, and quality of life, patients and healthcare companies are beginning to work together to address these concerns.

Join us for this week’s #HITsm chat where we’ll be discussing patients use of social media and the related privacy implications.

Topics for this week’s #HITsm Chat:

T1: What social media platforms are the best for patients and companies to connect on? Do privacy settings on certain apps make it more difficult to connect? #HITsm
