Coming out of the HIMSS conference, one of the top topics at the conference was cybersecurity. Maybe it was the lingering impact and effects of ransomware incidents that hit so many healthcare organizations or maybe it was the growing complexity of IT systems that are being deployed, but cybersecurity seemed to be on everyone’s mind.
Troy Ament, Healthcare Field CISO at Fortinet, was certainly right in the middle of these conversations at the show and we were lucky to sit down with him to hear what he was seeing and hearing from healthcare organizations. Looking at 2021 and leading into 2022, he identified ransomware as still one of the biggest threats out there and one that would likely continue to grow. Plus, he shared the threat and impact to operations that cybersecurity incidents were having on healthcare organizations. The length of downtimes is growing which really wreaks havoc on your operations.
On a more positive note, Ament shared 3 important security efforts every healthcare organization should be doing now along with an area of security that not enough healthcare leaders and CISOs are talking about. Plus, he shares some of the best ways a CISO can work to get more buy-in for their security efforts.
