4 Organizations to Watch from #MPE21

Four organizations stood out at the recent Medical Practice Excellence Leaders conference (#MPE21) hosted by MGMA: Rhinogram, Greenway, DrChrono, and MGMA itself. All of them had new products/features to offer their customers and bold plans for 2022. They are definitely ones to watch.

Rhinogram

I had the chance to sit down with Brendan Dagg, VP Product at Rhinogram – makers of a patient engagement platform for medical practices. The company prides itself on offering customers a consistent, barrier-free experience (ie: no apps to download or portals to log into) for both patients and staff.

Based on customer feedback during the pandemic, Dagg and his team recently added electronic forms and e-signature capabilities to their platform. Practices can now send forms to their patients ahead of their appointments (like COVID19 screening forms) which can be filled out without the need for anything to be downloaded to the patient’s phone.

What got me excited was Dagg’s grander product vision: “We are working towards automating many of the repetitive workflows that occur on a daily basis. We are going to do it in a convenient and personalized way. This will ultimately save staff a lot of time and reduce frustration.” According to Dagg, e-forms and e-signatures is a necessary first step towards that vision.

Given the company’s history of success and loyal customer base, I am excited to see what Rhinogram delivers over the next 12 months.

Greenway

Over the past 2 years, Greenway has brought in new leaders for its product, marketing and clinical teams. All of those leaders were at their #MPE21 booth and I had the unexpected opportunity to chat with all of them at the same time.

I cannot reveal all the details, but I can say that they want to shake up the EHR market and have big plans over the next 18 months. Their goal is simple – to make Greenway a name that is top-of-mind in the ambulatory space.

It’s going to be fun to watch them.

DrChrono

It was a similar story over at DrChrono where the marketing team has plans to push the company more into the spotlight. The company has been growing over the past several years and has a large base of happy clients. They recently launched their new EHR iOS application and early feedback from customers is that it is very easy to use.  Plus, they’re working with a number of strong partners who are leveraging their API.  It’s always great to see an EHR vendor that realizes they can’t be all things to everyone and embraces quality partner relationships.

I’m looking forward to hearing more from them in the coming months.

MGMA

One of the things I look forward to every year at the MGMA conference is getting the chance to talk to Andy Swanson, Vice President of Industry Insights & Business Intelligence at MGMA. He always has the most interesting statistics and survey findings to share.

This year Andy was excited to talk about MGMA’s new data lake that will underpin new member offerings. MGMA has always had a rich set of data from its members, but up until recently that data has been siloed. Their new data lake amalgamates everything in a single place.

“We’ve put member demographics, physician compensation data, cost information, and claims data all together,” said Swanson. “Now we can better serve our members. We can pair information much more easily than before. We can draw more insights and get the information to them much faster.”

One of the tough questions that MGMA will now be able to help practices answer is: “How much is my total cost of care?”

Swanson also shared with me their plans to transform the Practice Operations and Costs Survey into something brand new to healthcare – a Value-Based Care Cost Survey. This will give practices an independent, unbiased, and trusted source of information which they can use to gauge their VBC performance.

I can’t wait for next year’s conference when Swanson and I get together to talk about the progress they have made and the insights they have gleaned from both these new data offerings.
