Data sharing and interoperability are spreading too slowly in health care, and even if a doctor manages to get all the data, its varied formats make it hard to draw insights from.
eClinicalWorks has tackled the problem with a product called PRISMA, which can search across multiple providers and provide a unified view of recent visits, test results, etc. In this brief video, Jose M. Rocha, Director of the Corporate Business Office at First Choice Neurology, explains how such integration can produce better care.
For instance, his neurology service works with 42 hospitals, each displaying data on patients in its own idiosyncratic way. PRISMA combines the data and can present a simple display, which can include a timeline to help show the trajectory of the patient’s illness. Since this is done automatically, it makes the data accessible to the doctor at the point of care versus requiring them to log into another system…or possibly 42 other systems.
Plus, much like Google, the doctor can ask for precisely what they need to see, instead of being handed a data dump. Easy access to this data means they no longer do they have to order a test to replicate what’s already been done, or make decisions lacking key information.
Watch the video to see how First Choice Neurology exploits the integrated data offered by PRISMA inside their eCW EHR.
