VC firm General Catalyst is creating Health Assurance Transformation Corp., which will partner with 20+ health system partners to guide their transition to value-based care and potentially acquire a health system “where we can demonstrate the blueprint of this transformation for the rest of the industry.”
Google Cloud released new capabilities in Vertex AI Search for healthcare and life sciences, highlighting Hackensack Meridian Health and Highmark Health in its announcement. Additionally, ambient sensor vendor care.ai is integrating Google Cloud generative AI and data analytics tools into its Smart Care Facility Platform, while League announced it’s using Google Cloud to improve digital care pathway optimization.
Likewise, Microsoft announced healthcare-specific capabilities for Fabric, its analytics platform. Available in preview, the new features aim to provide a common architecture for deidentified data from disparate sources within Microsoft Cloud. Microsoft also released a preview tool that will layer Azure generative AI on top of chatbots and virtual assistants. Finally, the company noted more than two-thirds of clinicians using Nuance DAX Copilot for AI-powered documentation had an improved experience providing care.
Studies
- Almost half (48%) of American women don’t have a PCP or get regular preventive care, according to a survey from Tia Health.
- More than 60% of consumers said the ability to schedule appointments online is very important when choosing a new provider, according to a Kyruus survey.
- Las Vegas has the lowest density of cardiologists among major metropolitan areas, according to the latest research from LexisNexis Risk Solutions. (So be careful at HLTH, folks.) On the other hand, Boston has the highest density.
Partnerships and Sales
- Aidoc will power the Mayo Clinic Platform and help the health system expand the availability of clinical decision support.
- Samsung Health is using the b.well Connected Health Platform to help users to create a longitudinal health record and connect to providers at Walgreens and various hospital networks. Walgreens also announced plans to launch telehealth visits later this month, according to Healthcare Dive.
- Best Buy will begin selling prescription blood glucose monitors from Dexcom, facilitated by partnerships with virtual care platform Wheel and HealthDyne, a pharmacy technology provider.
- CLEAR announced partnerships with identity management vendor Verato and consumer experience platform b.well.
- Kaiser Permanente is tapping Instacart for a study on access to healthy food among Medi-Cal (Medicaid) members in California.
- InterSystems added eight companies to its startup program, bringing the total number of participants to 35.
- Optum and Uber are partnering to make non-urgent medical transportation and healthy food delivery covered benefits for certain Medicare Advantage plans beginning in 2024.
- Highmark Health tapped Spring Health for increasing access to behavioral health.
- Teladoc Health is partnering with Hinge Health and Sword Health to provide virtual therapy for joint and muscle pain.
- TrustCommerce integrated its patient payments platform with athenaIDX, athenahealth’s RCM product.
- More than 30 health systems and health plans led by the University of California health systems came together to launch VALID AI, a collaborative to explore best practices for the use of generative AI in healthcare.
- Withings Health Solutions integrated its suite of cellular connected devices with Validic, starting with its smart scale and blood pressure monitor.

- ClearDATA will release CyberHealth, its cloud security posture management product, as a SaaS offering by the end of the year.
- DeepScribe introduced a customization studio to its AI medical scribe.
- Senior care company DOUS announced the DUOS+AI platform, a conversational AI tool for members enrolled in Medicare Advantage.
- Elation Health released an integrated EHR and billing suite for primary care.
- Cigna’s Evernorth Health Services launched a value-based care program for behavioral health.
- KEEP Labs launched its smart medication storage and management device, KEEP.

As a Las Vegas local, the study obviously didn’t take into account the best healthcare in Las Vegas: our airport which can take us anywhere we need including Boston. They’re not wrong about the lack of healthcare in Vegas itself though.
