Celebrating 500 Episodes: Reliving the Best Moments From the Healthcare IT Today Interviews Podcast

Today marks a pretty significant milestone for our team: 500 episodes of the Healthcare IT Today Interview series!  To celebrate we have a special treat for you, a chat with John Lynn, Colin Hung, and Brittany Quemby.

What started as a blog based largely around articles and our founder John Lynn’s experience in the healthcare IT industry, has grown into a vast array of knowledge provided by experts from across the industry and the world, as well as a few of our own experts using a variety of media to include articles, videos, and podcasts.

Like many things in this world, the Healthcare IT Today Interview podcast was born during the height of the pandemic on July 20, 2020 with our very first episode. Many of us had a desire to do something to help people that were having a hard time, and Healthcare IT Today was no different. As Colin Hung describes in the video below, we wanted to “…get the word out there for health IT companies that were struggling at the time.”  In an effort to do that, he proposed doing 100 interviews in 100 days, and while we didn’t quite hit that mark, we did generate a lot of content in a very short period of time.

With all of those interviews in hand, and a desire to share them as much as possible, the idea of starting a podcast was brought up to provide our community our interviews in podcast form beyond the articles and videos we had been doing, and the podcast was born.  I don’t know that we would have ever guessed how much impact it would have in the time since.

With 500 episodes now published (Note: This doesn’t include episodes of the Healthcare IT Today or CIO Podcast), we have received approximately 750,000 listens to the content on the interviews podcast on podcasting platforms, videos, and social media, but the impact goes way beyond the numbers.  Our listeners tell us how our interviews keep them up to date with what is happening in the Health IT industry, and those we interview have shared their stories of receiving valuable exposure from the stories we tell and how it helped them reach the health IT community and even close deals.

According to John Lynn that is really the secret to our success. “A lot of people always ask what’s the model at Healthcare IT Today… it is being able to tell good stories that help IT leaders do their jobs better.”  I would add that good stories come from good people and good companies.

Colin took it to the next level when he explains, “In order to make the videos, the podcast successful…we had to do what we did with the articles.  It’s not good enough to just publish an article, put it on a website and expect people to come and find it.”  This is reflected in the level of social media push that all of these interviews have received.  LinkedIn, YouTube, Spotify, X/Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok are all part of the push to get the message of those we interview out to as many people as possible.

As you can imagine, that truly takes a team to make it happen.  Our team of almost 20 people all play a role in organizing, interviewing, recording, editing, writing, and promoting these videos.  We simply could not do it without all of them.

Check out the video below to learn more about the history of the podcast, some of John, Colin, and Brittany’s favorite memories, the impact they have seen from the interviews, and some teasers of what the future may hold for the podcast.

500 interviews in 500 days? 500 interviews at one conference? Only time will tell.
