Final #HITsm Chat – #HIMSS23 Preview

We’re excited to share the topic and questions for this month’s #HITsm chat happening Friday, 4/7 at Noon ET (9 AM PT).  This month’s chat will be hosted by John Lynn (@techguy) and we’ll be doing a #HIMSS23 Preview. As the title implies, this will be the last regularly scheduled #HITsm chat that we’re going to do.  It seems fitting that we discuss the mecca of health it conferences, HIMSS, as the final #HITsm chat since that’s where so many of the online #HITsm conversations turned into in-person meetings, friendships, work connections, and more.

First, let me address why we’re ending the weekly and then monthly #HITsm chat.  Given the lower number of participants, the #HITsm chat has run its course.  While there is no doubt a lot of nostalgia around the #HITsm chat that has been running for a little over 12 years, it seems clear that it isn’t (and probably hasn’t) been providing the same value to the community as it did in the early days.

When the #HITsm chat was started, it was an explosion of health IT connections like nothing I’d seen before.  Health IT professionals on Twitter were connecting, learning, and growing together.  It was amazingly fun.  Now, many of us know each other.  Plus, these conversations are happening all day every day within the community.  A weekly or even monthly chat no longer serves the purpose of connecting people or facilitating the conversation since that’s happening as an integrated part of our daily lives.  That will continue on the #HITsm hashtag and social media even without the chat.

As we end, the regularly scheduled #HITsm chat, the #HITsm hashtag will live on.  The conversations and connections will still happen and we’ll still do regular meetups at events like HIMSS.  Plus, we may hold the occasional #HITsm chat if the topic/situation arises where it makes sense.  A big thank you to  EricaMichelleAngela and Chad who did an amazing job hosting the first 280 #HITsm chats on the Health Standards blog.  The Healthcare IT Today team was happy to host the next 6.5 years and this will be the 281st #HITsm chat we’ve hosted since we took over the hosting duties.  Thanks to Hailey and Ray on the Healthcare IT Today team for doing the lion’s share of the work.

With the HIMSS 2023 Conference just weeks away, join us for the last #HITsm chat where we’ll talk about the upcoming conference and share some thoughts about our experiences in the #HITsm community. Also, if you’ll be at the HIMSS 2023 conference, join us for these two events we’re doing with the Healthcare Scene community:

See you at this week’s final #HITsm chat where we’ll be discussing the following topics.

Topics for this week’s #HITsm Chat:

T1: What are you most looking forward to at the #HIMSS23 conference? #HITsm

T2: Who are you most excited to see at the #HIMSS23 conference? #HITsm

T3: What topics do you think will be discussed at #HIMSS23 and how does that compare to the topics we’ve discussed in #HITsm chats over the last 13 years?

As always, we look forward to learning with you alongside the #HITsm community. We want to know how we can do better and what you’d like to see in our community dialog.
