It’s clear healthcare technology and infrastructure continues to become more advanced. However, the uptake of these advancements sometimes seems to lag behind. As Genevieve Morris ( former Principal Deputy Directory of the ONC) recently shared, it is frustrating when we have more knowledge of available tools than our care team.
It’s time we get back to basics – education. For so long we’ve been focused on the technology pipelines and making things happen, that now we face a different problem. Care teams don’t know what they do or don’t have, or even what’s out there that can help better take care of patients. Make no mistake, clinical burden and burnout is certainly real and it’s not fair to put the onus of education on them. What can we do as part of the health IT industry to foster education in a way that supports better patient care, a reduction of provider burden, decreased healthcare costs, and better population health?
