CIO Podcast – Episode 53: Informatics and Analytics with Ray Gensinger, MD

For the 53rd episode of the CIO podcast hosted by Healthcare IT Today, we are joined by Ray Gensinger, MD, Former CIO who is now Sr. VP and CMO at Tegria. To kick off this episode Gensinger tells us what it was like to move from being a doctor to a CIO to CMO at Tegria and how those experiences and his interest in informatics shaped his role as a CIO. To expand on that, we take a look at the most successful project he achieved as a CIO and what led to that success. Next we dive into Gensinger’s love for analytics to see how it has evolved in healthcare over time and where we are now with analytics. Then we discuss the keys to good informatics efforts.

We then shift our focus onto healthcare organizations. We debate the main priorities healthcare organizations should have on informatics and data and what they should be doing to make the most out of the data they have. Then with the increasing staffing issues we’re up against, we talk about how organizations deal with the lack of informaticists today. Lastly, Gensinger offers his advice to everyone that’s just starting out their career journey into the exciting world of healthcare.

Here’s a look at the questions and topics we discuss on this episode:
