Dr. Peter Bonis will examine the potential of advanced technologies at leading health tech event

WALTHAM, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Dr. Peter Bonis, the Chief Medical Officer for Wolters Kluwer Health, will speak on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and healthcare at a leading digital health tech industry event, ViVE 2024. The panel, titled “Lights, Camera, AI in Action: The AI Opening Act” will be held on Mon., Feb. 26 at 10AM PST. Panelists will address the potential of AI technologies including Generative AI (GenAI) to revolutionize the care experience for both patients and healthcare professionals.

“Many efforts are underway to take advantage of advanced technologies including GenAI in the healthcare domain. Where, how, and when they will achieve scaled up adoption remains uncertain, although many examples already offer a preview,” said Dr. Bonis. “Safety and effectiveness remain critical considerations, particularly when these technologies are applied to high-stakes domains such as clinical decision-making.”

Moderating the panel is Dr. John Whyte, Chief Medical Officer of WebMD. Joining Dr. Bonis as panelists are Kyna Fong, CEO and Co-Founder of Elation Health; Sunil Dadlani, EVP and Chief Information and Digital Transformation Officer at Atlantic Health System; and Susan Pasley, Chief Nursing Officer of CareRev.

As part of the ViVE “Lights, Camera, AI in Action” track, the panel will explore innovative use cases of AI before patients even enter the waiting room, ultimately optimizing the healthcare journey from the outset. According to ViVE:

Long before the patient takes center stage in the care setting, AI is hard at work. From scheduling to intake and triage, AI has the potential to revolutionize the care experience for both patients and healthcare workers. Imagine AI orchestrating efficient patient scheduling, skillfully triaging symptoms to determine the necessity of an in-person visit, and even addressing billing and insurance queries pre-visit to ensure providers are in-network. By tackling these operational aspects beforehand, AI sets the stage for a more productive and seamless in-person encounter.

Building on Wolters Kluwer’s solid AI foundation

Wolters Kluwer Health is already working with healthcare systems on integrating GenAI into UpToDate® through its experimental AI Labs. The company is committed to setting a standard for the responsible application of generative AI to the complex realities of front-line healthcare. A recent Wolters Kluwer Health survey, “Generative AI in Healthcare: Gaining Consumer Trust,” reveals one of the biggest concerns Americans have about GenAI in healthcare is not knowing where the medical information being used came from or how it is validated.

Approximately 50% of Wolters Kluwer’s digital revenues now come from products that leverage artificial intelligence. Wolters Kluwer products, services, and expert solutions are based on a foundation of trust, transparency, and responsibility—in line with the company’s values. Wolters Kluwer’s AI Principles, which guide the design, development and deployment of advanced technologies in helping customers solve their most complex problems, can be found here.
