Featured Health IT Job: Sr. Infrastructure Engineer

Position Summary

The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is a highly skilled and experienced Infrastructure Lead Engineer with a strong focus on migrating from legacy systems to AWS and supporting AWS. As a key member of our infrastructure team, this role will play a critical part in designing, implementing, and managing our AWS-based infrastructure while ensuring its seamless integration with legacy technologies.

The role will involve responding to support incidents, escalating to Tier 2 support, and leading root cause analysis. This individual must have a comprehensive understanding and appreciation of health information technology, its capabilities, limitations, and impact on clinical practice, while adhering to and contributing to HITRUST compliance policies and procedures.

This role reports to the Director of Technical Operations and can be operated out of either the Albany or Manhattan, NY office. The role follows a hybrid work schedule, with one required day per week (currently Tuesdays). Additionally, there are 30 in-person days expected each year, which can include stakeholder visits, all-staff meetings, development days, and conference attendance. Please note that the hybrid work schedule is subject to change.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage our AWS-based infrastructure to support the needs of our growing organization
  • Serve as the technical lead and subject matter expert on AWS-related projects, providing guidance and mentorship to the infrastructure team
  • Ensure that the business application systems supported by NYeC are maintained to the highest possible standard with maximum levels of attainable availability and efficiency
  • Manage infrastructure configuration and upgrades, and problem analysis and resolution for complex infrastructure problems in conjunction with development teams
  • Develop procedures and documentation for infrastructure support
  • Will be required to respond to out-of-hours application support requests adhering to NYeC SLA timelines
  • Manage NYeC Internet Domain Registrations, SSL/TLS and Certificates
  • Experience in managing and monitoring security alerts, incident detection, resolution, and coordination of resolution efforts with both customer and internal teams
  • Perform Tier 1 security support relating to vulnerability management at a system and application level while managing and maintaining compliance
  • Monitor public security advisories and alerts for information related to threats and vulnerabilities to NYeC information systems
  • Vulnerability management including identifying, testing, patching, and validating of servers, storage, and network equipment
  • Assist with Disaster Recovery planning, designing and implementation
  • Document and update storage, virtual infrastructure ops and security policies and procedures in accordance with HITRUST security certification requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience and Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology Management, or related field
  • 5+ year experience in an infrastructure support or engineering role
  • AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional
  • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and container orchestration platforms (e.g., Amazon EKS)
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., CloudWatch, ELK Stack)
  • Knowledge of compliance frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, PCI DSS) and experience implementing security controls in AWS and datacenter environments
  • Experience administering physical and virtual infrastructure technologies; networking, server, storage, virtualization
  • Experience with legacy technologies, including traditional data center systems such as VMware and NetApp
  • Solid understanding of DevOps principles and experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Jenkins, Git, Terraform)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues in a timely manner
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

We consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, which may cause compensation to vary depending on your skills, experience, qualifications, and home office location (Manhattan, NY vs. Albany, NY). The annual base salary range for this role for an Albany based candidate is $105,000 – $120,000. The annual base salary range for this role for a NYC based candidate is $125,000 – $145,000. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, NYeC will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with NYeC.
