On November 3rd and 10th, HRS is hosting Vision to Virtual, our annual event that dives into all things telehealth and remote patient monitoring. The theme of this year’s event is Mastering Telehealth Piece by Piece.

This year, Vision to Virtual is hosted across 2 days, and each day has a unique focus.

  • Wednesday, November 3rd: Focuses on developing the fundamentals of a telehealth and RPM program—from goal setting to staffing to implementation and training
  • Wednesday, November 10th: Builds on the lessons shared from Day 1, but goes one step further, providing insights and best practices from HRS’ most advanced partners, programs, and clinical experts

Each day offers 5 sessions on a diverse range of telehealth topics—all boiling down to Mastering Telehealth Piece by Piece.

The 10 sessions during Vision to Virtual are sure to be chock full of practical information that you can bring back to your organization and telehealth program. There’s a few themes and topics we’re especially excited for.

Combatting the Nursing Shortage

Across the country, health systems, hospitals, home health agencies, and hospice and palliative care organizations are experiencing the crisis of the nursing shortage. The nursing shortage has existed for some time,  but has been heavily accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic and its implications. The vacancies leave the remaining staff straining to deliver high-quality care, for all patients, not just COVID-19 patients.

It is an all hands on deck approach. Clinicians are working extra hours, caring for more patients, and taking on extra tasks. Patients are being turned away from care due to lack of resources.

To respond to the crisis and ease the burden on healthcare workers, innovation is necessary.

On November 3rd at 3:00pm, three clinical leaders will discuss addressing the nursing shortage and how telehealth can help. During the roundtable, presenters will reflect on the impact of COVID-19 on the nursing shortage and how telehealth and RPM can support providers and patients now and in the future.

Meet the Panelists:

  • Florence Kariuki, RN, BSN, MHA, FHELA
Chief Clinical Officer, Health Recovery Solutions
  • Kim Bradley, MSN, RN, NE-BC
Nurse Executive/Vice President of Clinical Services, Sentara Healthcare

The Hospital at Home Model

Telehealth utilization has stabilized at levels 38x higher than before the pandemic, and providers and patients alike are more open to telehealth as a tool for care delivery. One reason for this increase has been the rising prevalence of the hospital at home model. The hospital at home model has been around since the 70’s, but is only now becoming a mainstay in health system and hospital strategies.

On November 10th at 2pm, tune in as Allina Health’s program leaders walk through the structure of their program and explore the key elements necessary to launch and sustain a hospital at home program.

Meet the Panelists

  • Rachel Kuhnly, MHA, LNHA
Manager of Population Health, Operations, Allina Health
  • Julia Crist
Vice President of Operations, Allina Health

Data & Decision Making

Data is at the center of every successful RPM program. This includes patient data from biometric readings, but also outcomes data and metrics of success.

To build a sustainable long term telehealth program, it is essential to show patient outcomes and program data. It’s important to collect data around improved patient outcomes, as well as program metrics like changes in cost of care, readmission, ED utilization, etc. Robust data can inform future strategies, and as a program expands, inform benchmarks and program goals.

On November 10th at 11am tune in for a discussion around all things data - including a review of what data should be collected (and how), and in what ways you can use data to inform future telehealth strategies.

Meet the Speaker:

  • Dan Breazeale, PT, DPT, OCS
Director of Patient Services, Elara Caring
