Teams Tip: Blocking PSTN numbers in Teams

Are you plagued with constant robo calls, spam calls, calls from telemarketers, or calls from that one person you just really don’t want to speak to? Well you’re in luck, because now you can easily block any PSTN numbers within Teams! In today’s Teams tip we’ll outline a small feature Microsoft released in Teams that may have gone unnoticed by those of you with Teams Phone System and a Calling Plan! So without further ado let’s go over the 2 easy steps you can take to get rid of those pesky callers once and for all!

Step 1: Go to your Calls tab within your Teams application and select the History option (this can be done on your desktop PC or mobile client)

Step 2: In your calling History find the number you want to block. Once found, select the 3 dots (ellipses) on the right hand side of the number and select the Block option (as seen in the picture abvoe).

That’s it! That PSTN number is now blocked from calling you! Easy right!? If you ever want to see the list of the numbers you’ve blocked, you can do so by clicking on your profile picture in the upper right hand corner of your Teams client and going to your Settings option.

From there, select the Calls option and on the bottom you’ll see an option to “Manage blocked numbers“. Select that to see the list of the PSTN numbers you’ve blocked.

Note: You’ll also notice that you have the option of blocking all calls that don’t have a Caller ID if you’d like to.

In the example below you’ll see that I have 1 number blocked from calling me currently. Take that pesky caller!

That covers today’s quick Teams tip on blocking incoming PSTN numbers from calling you in Teams. I hope you have found this tip helpful and I encourage you to check back regularly as I’ll be releasing some more Microsoft Teams tips and other blog articles very soon!

Thoughts on “Teams Tip: Blocking PSTN numbers in Teams”

  1. This only works for an individual, not for the enterprise.

The skype for business commandlet actually works to block the number from teams

Set-CsInboundBlockedNumberPattern -Description “SETYOURDESCRIPTION” -Identity -Pattern “^\+1112223333”

Had originally found the commandlet under teams, but the documentation is blank but the documentation under Skype for Business is still relevant and works under a Teams only organization: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/skype/set-csinboundblockednumberpattern?view=skype-ps
