Walgreens has tapped some of the biggest names in digital health like Abbott, BetterHelp and Hinge Health to expand its offering on its Find Care platform.

The pharmacy retail giant has now included 11 new digital health companies in the Find Care platform, which was first launched in 2018 to help connect customers to healthcare providers. As of today, a total of 45 digital health companies are listed on the digital market place.

This new group of companies includes everything from diabetes care to mental health help, and physical therapy platforms to COVID-19 testing. The app also personalizes to match offerings to a users’ location.

New offerings includes two mental health companies BetterHelp and Sanvello. Providers and telehealth companies AtlantiCare, myPrivia Virtual Clinic, Novant Health and Children’s National Hospital were also represented.

The new list includes laboratory services from Cologuard and Clinical Reference Laboratory. Physical therapy companies SpineZone and Hinge Health also make the list. Additionally, the site will also include Abbott’s Diabetes Care business and hearing health company Lexie Hearing.

WHY IT MATTERS

Walgreens is pitching this technology as a way for users to access more digital care. From a business perspective, it means that Walgreens is continuing to expand marketplaces to include more diverse digital tools.

“Walgreens Find Care addresses even more needs during the pandemic by connecting patients to care and helping customers think differently about how their pharmacy can become a resource for more of their healthcare needs,” said Giovanni Monti, senior vice president of healthcare services at Walgreens Boots Alliance.

“In addition to adding new services, with this expansion, we are connecting our millions of customers nationwide to a broader mix of health systems and service providers that now offer more than 65 services and treat more than 120 conditions.”

THE LARGER TREND

Walgreens has been actively looking to incorporate more digital into their offerings. While Walgreens launched the Find Care platform in 2018, it has continuously been adding new vendors. Last year it added Propeller Health and Dexcom.

While Walgreens has been increasingly incorporating digital, that’s not to say it’s all been smooth sailing.

In 2020, an error in the Walgreens app led to the leak of customers’ secure messages. It allowed customers to see each other’s information, including personal data such as names and prescription drug information.
