The Most Important Thing in Consulting: People, People, People

John DeSue values people.

Our Perficient colleagues share how they live and breathe our core values. Here, John DeSue, general manager of delivery excellence for our Microsoft business unit, writes about the importance people have on building a successful company and workplace.

Core Value People

“Location, location, location.” A decades-old real estate adage about the importance of a property’s location to its value. It seems that phrase has stood the test of time because it rings so true.

In consulting, I believe in a similar adage: people, people, people.

At Perficient, we promote a number of important values: Integrity, Innovation, Clients, Collaboration, Pride, and People. To me, that last one, People, is a prerequisite. Without amazing people, the other values are quite difficult to attain.

Given the importance of people to the achievement of all our values, we invest a material amount of effort in attracting and retaining amazing people. One key component of our process is ensuring those whom we interview don’t just have great consulting minds, but also great relationship-building skills and emotional intelligence. During our interview process, we explore how potential employees communicate, build relationships, build trust, own their mistakes, and celebrate others over themselves.

When we find someone who has these skills and a passion for consulting, we know we have a winner–a winner for Perficient and for our clients.

People, people, people.
