LG Electronics has teamed up with fellow South Korean company ezCaretech to develop a new telemedicine solution.

WHY IT MATTERS

The ezOntheCall telemedicine platform combines LG Electronics' video conferencing system with ezCaretech's EMR-based telemedicine application.

Enabled by advanced cloud computing technology, the system offers real-time access to medical records and clinical test results stored in hospital information systems, enabling doctors to "quickly and easily" retrieve the most current patient data for immediate sharing over video calls.

The combined solution also enables medical centres and hospital staff to handle administrative processes and update relevant records while communicating remotely with patients.

ezOntheCall also features a portal where patients can book follow-up appointments or consultations, as well as request prescription refills.

LG Electronics claims its platform delivers high-quality audio and video and that it works "seamlessly" within computer web browsers, mobile devices and IoT to allow direct peer-to-peer communication without additional plugins or apps.

According to a press statement, the telemedicine solution has been chosen by Saudi Arabia's Ministry of National Guard – Health Affairs and is now being deployed at six major hospitals and approximately 70 primary healthcare centres around the kingdom.

The ezoOntheCall platform will become available in the US and other key markets worldwide later this year.

MARKET SNAPSHOT

In April, American telecommunications company Verizon introduced its virtual care platform called BlueJeans Telehealth. Available in over 200 languages, including sign language, the system runs with Dolby Voice Audio to ensure uninterrupted virtual visits. It also has transcription and closed captioning functionalities and can automatically share data and information into the EHR workflow of healthcare providers.

According to the latest research by Facts and Factors, the global telehealth market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 26.5%, rising from $62.45 billion last year to $475.5 billion by 2026.

ON THE RECORD

"The ezOntheCall telemedicine solution featuring LG’s video conferencing platform will usher in a new era of remote patient services. LG is focusing on the changing needs of the market and in partnership with key players across diverse sectors such as healthcare, we continue to invest heavily in the next generation of remote cloud-based service solutions," said Paik Ki-mun, SVP and head of Information Display at LG Electronics Business Solutions Company.
