Boots UK has launched an online quiz in a three-year partnership with Public Health England that aims to encourage people to take action to become healthier.

The free, interactive questionnaire, hosted on the high street pharmacy retailer’s website, takes an evidence-based approach to assess the respondents’ eating, drinking and smoking habits, as well as their sleep and exercise patterns, in order to receive a personal wellness score.

WHY IT MATTERS

The quiz follows the release of the 2018 Health Survey for England, published at the beginning of December by NHS Digital, which found that 27% of adults reported less than 30 minutes of moderate or vigorous physical activity per week.

Figures show that over 55% of adults were also found to be at increased, high or very high risk of chronic disease due to their waist circumference and BMI.

“Unhealthy lifestyles continue to cost the NHS around £11 billion every year and potentially preventable health risks cause 40% of ill health and early death in the population. We know that simple changes can lead to huge health benefits,” said Duncan Selbie, Public Health England chief executive.

“This collaboration with Boots puts public health expertise right in the hands of people looking to make a difference to their health,” Selbie added.

THE LARGER PICTURE

In September, Boots UK announced that it would be working with Swedish startup LIVI, known as KRY in the Nordic markets, to offer an in-store digital GP consultation service.

Earlier in the year, the company appointed Richard Corbridge, former chief digital and information officer at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, as director of innovation.

ON THE RECORD

“By combining our experience and the huge number of people who shop with us, with PHE's unparalleled expertise and knowledge, we think that we can help millions of people become healthier and happier,” added Sebastian James, Boots UK managing director. “I hope that everybody will use the quiz on our website and follow the personalised advice that we send.”
