What Do Patients Expect Now? – #HITsm Chat Topic

We’re excited to share the topic and questions for this week’s #HITsm chat happening Friday, 10/9 at Noon ET (9 AM PT). This week’s chat will be hosted by Tim Dybvig (@timdybvig) from @ExperityHealth on the topic of “What Do Patients Expect Now?“ with a spotlight on patient engagement.

The way we give and receive health care looks starkly different today than it did a few months or even years ago. Providers’ care processes and communication methods that have long followed an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” ideology have grown obsolete and in need of a new strategy. Like most things, the changing environment can’t help but impact patient engagement today and how patients should be engaged moving forward.

Patient engagement has become increasingly important as the on-demand care market continues to boom, giving the “patient-consumer” more options than ever. Now, with fear and confusion causing many patients to avoid seeking the care they need, we must ask ourselves how should we be engaging these patients? What do they need right now? How can providers satisfy patient needs through thoughtful engagement? How can we use our engagement technology to work smarter, not harder? Successfully engaging patients where they are is key in keeping provider’s doors open and delivering better, patient-centered healthcare.

Join us Friday for a chat on how COVID-19 is impacting patient engagement and how it might influence the next wave of engagement technology.

Topics for this week’s #HITsm Chat:

T1: What’s the value of patient engagement, now especially, in healthcare? What’s its significance when it comes to cultivating a good patient experience? #HITsm

T2: What engagement tools do you use most to communicate now and for what? (SMS, surveys, etc.) #HITsm

T3: Have new engagement challenges or demands emerged in light of COVID? How can engagement HIT evolve to best serve those needs? #HITsm

T4: For providers, what insights gleaned from patient feedback or data do you think are most valuable for businesses? #HITsm

T5: What changes in engagement that resulted from COVID do you see lasting beyond the pandemic? #HITsm

Bonus: If you, a patient, were to receive a message from your healthcare provider, what would be your preferred channel and what subject matter would most entice you to engage? #HITsm

  • The changes in engagement that I see lasting from COVID is the patient being by themselves when they’re admitted. Lots of patience that come into the er are admitted to the hospital and to cut down the possibility of spreading COVID the patient is not allowed to have visitors with them. I know that this policy recently changed that many hospitals but I see it going back to patients not being able to have any visitors because of the spike in COVID cases.
