No doubt we’re not there yet, but it’s something that is on the horizon and needs to be considered in a healthcare organization’s virtual care plans since it may be the only way we truly scale up virtual care to every patient.
Plus, one panelist observed that fee for service was a “drug” that healthcare organizations are addicted to. I’d never heard such an apt description of why it’s so hard for healthcare organizations to leave fee for service for value based care. It is like a drug that no one really wants to take, but it gives them what they want.
