Fitbit names new head of engineering, higi announces executive chairman, and other digital health hires

Floridian healthcare IT company Modernizing Medicine has tapped Patrick DeAngelo for the role of vice president and general manger of business services. DeAngelo has worked in revenue cycle, operational, and technical departments at major healthcare companies for 20 years. His new duties will include leading revenue cycle management (RCM) operations, the sales team, and value-based care services at Modernizing Medicine. 

“A smooth and strategic RCM process is critical to the financial success of any healthcare organization, particularly the surgical specialties that Modernizing Medicine serves. I’ve already begun working with the team to strengthen the company’s already strong RCM offering,” DeAngelo said in a statement. “In keeping with Modernizing Medicine’s commitment to customer delight, I am excited to help ensure we provide RCM services to support our customers’ goals.”

Healthcare kiosk company higi announced that Dr. Chris Kryder will be joining the team as executive chairman. This news comes after the startup announced that it scored $21.3 million in a Series C investment round in July. 

Kryder has been involved multiple healthcare companies, having acted as the chairman of Valance Health and the CEO of D2Hawkeye. 

“It’s a terrific time to be in healthcare services, as technology — particularly remote diagnostics and monitoring – is improving the delivery of patient care, and as retail organizations are opening a new front door,” Kryder said in a statement. “higi’s machines meet consumers where they shop, and transmit data securely into the workflow of their doctors. This is likely to be a significant part of the future of healthcare, and I’m proud, as higi moves into high-growth phase, to be part of it.”

During Fitbit’s Q2 earnings call, CEO James Park announced that Koby Avital would be joining the company as the new VP of its engineering organization. Avital jumped over to Fitbit from priceline.com, where he served as chief technology officer. Park said that in Avital’s new role, he will be focusing on hardware, software, and firmware engineering. 

Datta Nadkarni will be joining EyeQue, an at-home vision technology company, as chief marketing officer. Nadkarni will be coming to the company with 25 years of experience in marketing. In his new role, he will work with providers to make new partnerships and develop global marketing strategies. 

“At EyeQue, we’re redefining eye care by putting vision screeners directly into consumers’ hands,” Dr. John Serri, cofounder and CTO of EyeQue, said in a statement. “Datta brings a wealth of marketing and business development experience and was instrumental in what could be considered the first consumer revolution in eye care — the introduction of premium quality one-hour eyeglasses in the US and several international markets. We’re thrilled to bring Datta onboard to help EyeQue usher in the next era in eye care — at-home vision testing.” 

This isn’t Nadkarni’s first experience with eye care. He previously worked with LensCrafters to help launch the company’s “1 hour glasses” service, according to a statement. 

Seattle-based online health service community First Choice Health has announced two new hires at its company. Ron Cornell will join the team as the director of product innovation, and James Cassel will take up the role of director of Oregon sales. 

“Cornell has a knack for understanding what customers want and quickly developing products that will delight them,”Jaja Okigwe, CEO of First Choice Health, said in a statement. “He is really good at engaging organizations and working with teams to reach new heights of performance. He’s a strategic thinker and is well connected to the health innovation ecosystem. I am confident he’ll bring a tremendous value to all aspects of our product development apparatus.”  

Additionally, Cassel will bring with him 14 years of sales experience and market development, according to a statement.
